There are, however, certain rights that you need to maintain, along with responsibilities as a community leader. Remember these rights and responsibilities, and you will get more enjoyment as a community leader.
Rights of Community Association Leaders
- You have the right to expect all owners and residents to pay their financial responsibilities to the community.
- You also have the right to expect residents to understand and respect the rules and regulations of the community. Owners and non-owner residents alike should always stay informed on all materials that you provide to them.
- When conducting community meetings, you have the right to a positive and constructive atmosphere where you receive respectful and productive treatment from all residents.
- You have the right to receive clear and honest support from community members, helping you enhance the association and making everyone's lives better.
- You have the right to use any educational opportunities that may arise. These include publications and work shops that relate to your responsibilities as a community leaders.
- Finally, you have the right to privacy. Personal privacy at home and during your leisure time is essential, and you don't have to sacrifice either just because you are a community leader.
Responsibilities of Community Association Leaders
While you have many rights as a community leader, you also have a lot of responsibilities that help enhance the neighborhood.
- One of your most basic responsibilities is to fully understand all governing documents and establish a thorough understanding of state and local laws that apply to your community.
- You should always fulfill the financial duties of the community, including the collection of dues, and use sound judgement to make decisions that are in the best interest of your community. This includes following established management methods. You will also need to create appropriate steps to help home owners meet their financial obligations if needed.
- Your responsibilities include balancing the needs of individual members with the needs of the community as a whole.
- When needed, it's your responsibility to establish committees, encourage community input, and personally welcome new members to the area.
- It's your responsibility to conduct business in a transparent manner whenever possible. This includes allowing homeowners access to all community records if they are requested and conducting fair, well-documented elections that all members are encouraged to participate in. Transparency also includes providing a simple process by which residents can appeal decisions that effect their payments or property rights.
- You should also make sure that all regulations, conditions, and restrictions are always clear and understandable.
- Finally, it is your responsibility to encourage events and gatherings that enhance the welcoming, friendly atmosphere of your community. Helping your residents enjoy the area is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
